BLOG - February 29, 2012

Welcome to the newly updated Lucas Landscaping website. We had some time this winter to go over the website and make some much needed additons and improvements to provide our customers (and potential customers) with the best possible online experience. Aside from a sales tool, we would like this site to function as a general resource for landscaping and landscape maintenance in Garrett County, Maryland. Here you will find usefull information for the do-it-yourselfer as well as plenty about the professional services we offer.

When we first assembled this website back in 2009, we didn't expect it to get as popular as it did. Our "Plants" page for example has become the local authority of sorts for people looking for photo examples and descriptions specific to Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake. After generating thousands of "hits" over the past two years, I wanted to add another level of organization and high quality graphic examples to make our site even more usefull.

For the entirety of the upcoming 2012 season, I will be updating this blog article every Sunday with information related to frequently asked questions or important landscape issues that every homeowner should address. These articles will be cataloged and stored on the site for you to go back to for reading or printing purposes. If you would direct your attention to the black sidebar column over there ------------> this is where articles will be listed by topic. Click on any one to be directed to a viewable/printable page.

For starters, I have taken some of the information from the old website and converted them to clickable articles. This allows for a bit cleaner website layout and better organization. Feel free to browse any of the current articles or shoot me an email to request a topic. I am happy to answer any questions landscape related from anyone who cares to ask. We can also answer your questions via basic email message if you so desire.

Until Next Week... Thank you for taking the time to browse our website. And please call or email us if you have a potential project for this upcoming year and would like to set up an on-site meeting to discuss what Lucas Landscaping can do for you.

Best Regards-

Daniel Lucas

Annual Maintenance for a lasting landscape

CALL US FOR ALL OF YOUR ANNUAL MAINTENANCE NEEDS!

Let us help get your yard back in to shape this Spring. Lucas Landscaping will not be undersold. We offer a unique 6 part process for getting your existing landscape in the best possible shape.

1) Let us trim appropriate trees and shrubs such to promote the overall health and shape of the

plants. If you have invested in the installation of plants. You need to trim them annually to get the best results. Utilize our lenghthy experience and have your plants trimmed properly.

2) Once trees and shrubs are trimmed all debris are picked up and removed from the jobsite. Remaining leaves from the fall and road cinders by the street all look terrible but can be picked up quickly.

3) Mulched planting beds look best when they are "edged" annually. A nice 3-4" recess edge makes all the difference when looking at your planting composition. We have the proper edging machine (Brown Products) to cut a very nice uniform edge that will last all season long. Our machine creates a 4" wide x 4" deep uniform angled groove. It's a world of difference from one of those weed wacker units.

4) If weeds have accumulated in your planting beds we can pull them. As a preventive measure there are several available weed treatments such as various granular pre-emerge herbacides that will prevent future weed seeds from germinating. These products work best when installed first....before the mulch.

5) Fertilizer is important for both shrubs and lawn. After a long winter your lawn typically looks dull in color for the first couple months of spring. An early fertilizer treatment will bring out a full deep green coloration within a week. This "jump start" will increase root density and help the grass choke out potential weeds. Flowering shrubs typically ingest phosphorous to generate numerous blooms. The phosphorous contained in fertilizer will promote heavy flowering and the nitrogen will encourage a healthy green leaf. If you paid the money to install shrubs... proper

annual fertilization is a must to achieve the best results.

6) Our mulch is typically installed by our trained crew. Improper mulching can kill certain plants (especially rhododendron and azalea species) if not properly pulled away from stems. We know how to install the mulch in a nice even layer and rake it smooth.

We will not be undersold. We will provide all six of the above services or any one of them at the best price. We will match or beat any competing price from any licensed landscape company.
