Low Voltage Landscape Lighting

Landscape Lighting is one of the fastest growing segments affiliated with the green industry. Demand is growing and Lucas Landcaping can help with everything from design, fixture selection, and installation.

These are much more than the lighting systems available at the hardware store. At this point, anyone can go down to the local hardware store and pick up a box of fixtures for a couple hundred dollars. They can plug them in and have light, - and lets face it, compared to darkness, any light looks good.

Lighting contractors like ourselves know that there is much more to it than that. Using high quality products is a must, but proper design and installation takes time and knowledge. Knowing where to place fixtures, and how to truly design the portrait using levels of light makes a huge difference in the final look. It's not about just plugging fixtures into the ground.

Give us a call today to set up an appointment to talk about your landscape lighting project. We would be happy to provide you with a plan and pricing, as well as go over some of the basic elements that really separate our lighting installs from the hardware store box sets.

Whats involved in the lighting installation?

Low voltage landscape lighting systems usually have 3 primary components. First you have the transformer. The transformer is provides the distribution of electricity to all of the fixtures. Transformers are selected based on the number and wattage of proposed fixtures (more fixtures = larger transformer). Transformers are usually mounted on the side of your home or in a somewhat hidden location. The actual "box" ranges in size from shoe box size to double that. The transformer boxes are available in various finishes to help them blend in to the surroundings.

Next you have the low voltage wire. The wire is connected to the transformer and run out to the various fixture locations. We use a voltage drop mathmatical equation to be sure that each fixture recieves optimal power. A system that is hooked up incorrectly will cause lights to burn out quicker than usual. To little power will cause a light to look dim. The overall lighting design must consider these issues when the system is being layed out on paper.

Finally we have the individual fixtures. There are hundreds of choices when it comes to quality lighting fixtures. We have a smaller selection of proven favorites that really perform well and last under harsh outdoor weather conditions. Set up an apointment today to talk about your project.

Pricing

An average low voltage lighting system (professionally designed & installed) will cost anywhere from $2,000 to $5,500 depending on the bells and whistles that you include. Please feel free to give us a call regarding your budget, we will do what we can to help get you the most for your money.
